HAMLET — Michael Wayne “Mike” Crume, 73, of Hamlet, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 16, 1946, in Richmond County, son of Eugene Rollie Crume and Elizabeth Griffin Crume.
Mike was a former teacher with Richmond County Schools, teaching history and political science; a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a Bronze Star recipient during the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Barbara C. Liggins.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Pruitt Crume of the home; son, Michael W. Crume Jr. (Laurie) of Rockingham; grandchildren, Michael W. Crume III, Matthew Rollie Crume, Jacob Myles Crume, Destiny Lynn Chappell (Kevin) and Alyssa Nicole McNeill (Donnell ); great-grandchildren, Brookelynn, Kevin Jr., Colton and Zander; favorite cat , Jacob Olaf; and his best friend and “Brother from another Mother”, David Fieg.
Mike’s request was no funeral for himself, instead he suggested you take that time to be with your family, visit a veteran, spend time with the elderly or enjoy a friend.
A private graveside service, with military honors, will be held for Mike later this week; due to COVID-19 restrictions and his request.
