Millie Russell

ROCKINGHAM — Millie Simmons Russell, 91, of Rockingham, completed her earthly journey on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020.

Mrs. Russell was born Oct. 10, 1929 in Surry County, a daughter of the late David Hasten and Roxie Ann Owens Simmons.

She was a longtime and faithful member of Roberdel Baptist Church, having been a Sunday school teacher, choir member, chairperson of the Bereavement Committee, and the oldest member of the MERE Mission Group. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Caddell Russell; a grandson, Trenton Wood; and siblings, Arville Simmons, Myrtle Shaw and Tressie Covington.

She is survived by her daughters, Janice Russell-McInnis (Tom) and Ronda Russell Webb; grandchildren, Kim Webb, Angela Quinn (Mike), Brandon Wood (Leahanna), and Matthew Wood (Marcie); great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Jakob, Carleigh, Paisley, Brock, Bowen, Rachel, Barrett and Hunter; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held privately at Eastside Cemetery.

Mrs. Russell will lie in state at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The family will not be present during this time.

The family would like extend a special thanks to caregivers Amy Lawrence, Sarah Brigman and all the Hospice staff who gave such wonderful care to our loved one.
