Norvin E. Forester Jr.

ROCKINGHAM — Pastor Norvin Earl Forester Jr., age 76,of Rockingham, passed away on Friday, Aug. 9, 2019.

Norvin was a son of the late Norvin Earl Forester Sr. and Dorothy Evelyn Smith Forester, born May 25, 1943 in Memphis, Tennessee. Earning his Master’s Degree in Religious Education, Norvin served 44 years in ministry in seven different states, with the last of those 20 years as a pastor.  He served on the Southern Baptist Convention Committee and several workshops. He loved to read, enjoyed electronics, computers and being a ham amateur radio operator. Norvin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rockingham where he also served as a deacon.  Devoted to his family, he will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Mary Ellen Nichols Forester of their home; sons, Norvin “Laird” Forester and wife Amy of Rockingham, the Rev. Jamie Forester and wife Tracy of Savannah, Tennessee, Richard Randolph “Randy” Forester and wife Amanda of Lumberton; and his nine adoring grandchildren. He also leaves behind a sister, Dorothy Ann Forester Criddle and husband James of New Albany, Mississippi, along with a niece and two nephews.

Memorial services to honor his life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Rockingham.  The family will receive friends prior to the service on Tuesday beginning at 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the church. A private interment will be held at a later date in the McDonald Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be given in Pastor Forester’s memory to the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church of Rockingham, 210 North Randolph St., Rockingham, NC  28379.
