OBITUARY: Alvin Edward Blake

Alvin Edward Blake, 91, of Rockingham, completed his earthly journey and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024.

Mr. Blake was born Sept. 24, 1933 in Montgomery County, a son of the late Herbert and Opal Fick Blake.

He proudly served his country for more than 24 years in the U.S. Air Force retiring with the rank of senior master sergeant. Following his retirement, he went on to build the family home, paint cars, and own a logging business. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Rockingham where he helped with the remodeling and additions to the buildings. He loved his family deeply, was an avid fisherman, loved to garden and work in his sawmill.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Frank Blake, Pauline McCormick, Gathy Blake and Ann Sasser.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 69 years, Edith Whitley Blake; daughters, Sharon Marinell (Greg), Karen Parker and Vickie Brown (Gene); grandchildren, Mandy Parker, Derek Brown (Nikki), Justin Brown (Holli), Ashleigh Blakley (Danny) and Blake Lowe (Shelby): great-grandchildren, Zoe, Paisley, Charlee, Lexi, Lily and Brooks; and siblings, Kenneth Blake, Carol Wright and Linda Blake.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2024 at the Church of God of Prophecy, 139 Flowers St., Rockingham, with Pastor Steve Gilmer and the Rev. Mackie Walters officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church and at other times at the home.
