Anna Kiss Humphrey, age 89, passed away on May 30, 2023 at Hospice Haven.
She was born Aug. 14, 1933 in Budapest, Hungary to Martin Kiss and Theresia Krenedics Kiss.
She is survived by her only son, Mitch Humphrey (Johanna) of Hamlet; as well as Ellis Peck (brother-in-law) of Soda Springs, Idaho; and nieces and nephews both in the United States and Germany.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Gary Humphrey; by her parents; and by her siblings Elizabeth Peck, Theresia Szatzker, Johan Kiss and Martin Kiss.
After leaving Bolheim, Germany in 1962, she and Gary made their home in Charlotte, North Carolina, for 14 years. Finally, they made their way to Richmond County, Gary’s hometown, in 1976, where she remained until her death.
Here, Anna enjoyed helping her husband and son with their farm where they raised beautiful vegetables to sell as well as livestock. She also enjoyed reading, cooking, especially baking cakes, and spending time with her family and friends. One of her proudest accomplishments was obtaining her United States citizenship on Jan. 21, 1994.
The funeral mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Hamlet on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 11 a.m., followed by an interment service at East Side Cemetery in Rockingham.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made out to Richmond County Hospice, St. James Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
