Arnold Locklear, 90, of Rockingham, passed away surrounded by his loving family Monday, Sept. 25, 2023.
Arnold was the youngest son of Sallie and Douglas Locklear.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings Willie Locklear, David Locklear, Minnie Locklear, Nancy Clark, Doug Locklear and Sallie Mae Wright. He is also preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Locklear.
Arnold was a very skilled and handy person. Anything he tinkered with, he somehow knew exactly how to fix it. He was a natural when it came to fixing anything with his hands. He retired from J.P. Stevens Textile Mill. Outside of work, he loved to tend to his garden. He took immense pride in his garden. He loved to grow sunflowers the most.
Arnold leaves behind his wife of 17 years, Alice Locklear, of the home; daughters, Linda Locklear Grubbs (Don) of Rockingham and Jean Locklear Evers, of Bennettsville, South Carolina; grandchildren, Hope Clark (Michael), Heidi Grubbs (Rick) both of Laurinburg, Hillary Dachs (Luke) of Nashville, Tennessee, and Heather Butdorf (Matt) of Bluffton, South Carolina; great-grandchildren Zachary and Madeline Butdorf; stepchildren, Norman Odom (Wendy), Theodore Odom (Laura), Tim Odom and Patsy Odom (George); step-grandchildren, Melissa Odom, Laura Odom, Krissanie Mabe, Princeton Mabe, Brysen Mabe, Chris Odom, Shawn Odom, Renesmee Odom and Mala’khi Odom. Arnold also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews all of whom will miss him dearly.
The family will receive friends for visitation Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023 from 1 to 2 p.m. — and other times at the home — with services to follow immediately after. Services will be held at Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet with Pastor Eddie McLean and Pastor Harry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Eastside Cemetery.
In addition to flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made out to King’s Gate Church Food Bank at 161 Sierra Ave., Hamlet, NC 28345.
