Audrey Lomax Cannon, 101, transitioned from labor to reward on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024 at her home in Ellerbe.
She was born to Edward Davidson and Julia Kent on Oct. 31, 1922, in Plainfield, New Jersey.
She met and married Miller W. Lomax Sr. from Lynchburg, Virginia. Together, they had three sons: Miller Jr., Calvin and Aubrey. She later remarried Johnny Cannon.
In her final years, Audrey called Ellerbe, North Carolina, home. Prior to this, she spent time in Virginia and Maryland, and most significantly Plainfield, New Jersey. In this city, she aided in serving her community. She held a position as an assistant on the psychiatric ward in Muhlenberg Hospital for a few years, but her most prized work came through her contributions to educating youth. For two decades, Audrey served as a teaching assistant for the Plainfield public school system.
Audrey is survived by her son, Aubrey Kent Lomax; daughter-in-law, Kathy Lomax; grandchildren, Tamara, Melissa, Maxine, Kim, Darryl Sr. and Jeffrey; great-grandchildren, Adonis, Darryl Jr., Jeffrey, Sydney and Zoey; cousins, Joan, Tracey, Karen and Leslie; and several friends and extended family members.
She is now united with her sons, Miller and Calvin; granddaughter, Nakiah; and a host of loved ones and friends.
With gratitude for a life well lived, family and friends bid farewell to Audrey Louise Cannon while keeping strong memories of her compassion and love alive.
Funeral services will be Jan. 10 at Brown Funeral Home in Plainfield, New Jersey, with interment following at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, New Jersey.
