OBITUARY: Austin Francis Allman

Austin Francis Allman, 94, of Hamlet, formerly of Ravenswood, West Virginia, passed away peacefully, Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023 at his home.

He was born April 26, 1929, in Jackson County, West Virginia, son of the late Cecil Floyd Allman and Drusilla Jones Allman.

Mr. Allman retired with the United States Air Force after serving for 20 years. He also retired from the United States Postal Service in Ravenswood. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ravenswood.

Mr. Allman was a wonderful man who never met a stranger. He enjoyed traveling, including places in Florida, Germany and Brazil, and some of his travels were related to exchange students that he and Ellen hosted. Their home in Ravenswood was frequently visited by the parents of the exchange students. He also loved to build, and even built his own home, and kept busy building decks and porches for anyone in need.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Hess Allman; sister, Dorothy Mason; and brother, Donald Allen Allman.

Mr. Allman leaves behind his children, Freda Desmarais of Greenwood, South Carolina, William Allman (Susan)of Irmo, South Carolina, Diane Lawson of Simpsonsville, South Carolina, and James Hudley of Ravenswood, West Virginia, Diane Brown (Dr. Luiz Nascimento) of Hamlet, Lisa Ann Haselhorst (Mark) of St. Louis, Missouri, Steven Claypool and David Claypool (Annie) of Ravenswood, West Virginia; grandchildren, Bradley Rodgers, Chris Rodgers, Amanda Rodgers, Ryan Allman, Turner Allman, Sarah Allman, Alana Claypool, Matthew Brown, Jed Claypool and Taylor Blankenship (Chris); great-grandson, Grayson Tipton; and brother, Ronald Allman of Ravenswood, West Virginia.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, Nov. 24, 2023 at noon at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, West Virginia.
