Bernice “Bean” Goodwin, 91, of Rockingham, passed away surrounded by her loving family Friday, Nov. 24, 2023.
Bernice was a daughter of Harrison Wallace Moore and Lillie Ruth Thompson. Bernice was one out of several siblings.
Along with her parents and siblings, Bernice is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Jerry Lee Goodwin Sr.
Bernice was a homemaker and took immense pride in providing for her children. She is described as the best mother a family could ask for. When it came to anything regarding the home, Bernice was gifted. She was a phenomenal cook and seamstress. Every Halloween she would hand-make all of her children’s costumes. Bernice passed on her knowledge of cooking to her family through recipe books that she curated throughout the years.
Outside of the home, Bernice loved to play bridge and was associated with many clubs. She enjoyed traveling the world with her lifelong friend Nancy McInnis.
Bernice leaves behind her children, Jerry Lee Goodwin Jr., Kathy Crump and her husband Monty, and Russell Moore Goodwin; she also leaves behind grandchildren Jerry Lee Goodwin III (Caroline), Jennifer Wilson (John), Scot Shields, Jerry Leigh Goodwin Brown (Tyler) and Kimberly Dawn Goodwin; she is further survived by great-grandchildren Jerry Lee Goodwin IV, Emma Claire Wilson, Noah Wilson and Lily Wilson; and special daughter-in-law, Kimberly Bullard Goodwin.
The family has held a private service to honor Bernice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made out to either the Humane Society at 529 W US 74 Hwy, Rockingham, 228379; or Richmond County Hospice Haven at 1119 U.S. Hwy 1, Rockingham, N.C., 28379.
