MOORESVILLE — Betty Ann Denton, 90, of Mooresville, North Carolina, passed away on Aug. 21, 2022.
She was born on Oct. 18, 1931 in Ellerbe, to the late Haywood and Etta Smith Parker.
Betty graduated from Ellerbe High School in 1949 at 17 years old. She moved to Charlotte where she worked at Atlantic Refining Company and the Celanese Company. She attended Queens College and graduated in 1965. Betty received her degree to teach English and taught in Mecklenburg and Iredell County Schools until her retirement. She was the Jr. High English teacher for gifted students. She enjoyed gardening, playing the piano and was an avid reader and self-learner. Betty was an exceptionally gifted lady. She was deeply loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, Beecher Tate Denton II; her second husband, Wyatt Gordon; her son, Beecher Tate Denton III; brothers, Haywood Alexander Parker Jr. and John Billie Parker (Mary Grace).
She is survived by her stepchildren, Mike Gordon (Brenda), Vicki Coker, Randy Gordon (Becky); grandchildren, Ryan (Elisabeth) and Brandon Denton; nephew, John Alexander Parker (Elaine); nieces, Mary Hope Parker Villela (Dissandier) and Martha Ann Parker.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022 from noon-1 p.m. with a service following at 1 p.m. at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, Mooresville. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Jamie Hamrick will be officiating.
