OBITUARY: Betty ‘Carol’ Tyner

ROCKINGHAM — Betty “Carol” Tyner, 89, of Rockingham, went home to be with her Lord Friday, Sept. 23, 2022 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 21, 1933, in Richmond County, daughter of the late Robert Odell and Lena Mae Thomas.

Ms. Tyner and her late husband, the Rev. Willie Tyner, were founding pastors of the West Rockingham Church of God. She was a popular Bible teacher and speaker in the local area, and most recently, ministered at Emmanuel Ministries in Hamlet.

In her later years, she enjoyed reading God’s word, and coloring and completing word puzzles.

She loved everyone she met and made everyone feel comfortable around her. She was truly a blessing to all who knew her.

Ms. Tyner was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Odell and Lena Mae Thomas; husband, the Rev. Willie Tyner; brothers, Clarence B. Thomas and Odell Thomas; and sister, Helen Thomas.

She is survived by her children, Nancy Tyner of the home, Gloria Bun (Toshi) of Tokyo, Japan, and Dr. Ed Tyner of Arlington, Virginia.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022 from 1-2 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home.

The funeral will begin at 2 p.m., immediately following the visitation, in the chapel of Harrington Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Kee, the Rev. Thomas Buck, and the Rev. Nelson Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Northam Cemetery, Rockingham.
