OBITUARY: Betty Jean Gardner Sullivan

Betty Jean Gardner Sullivan, age 66, of Rockingham, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2023, surrounded by her family at Hospice Haven.

Betty was born April 10, 1957, a daughter of the late Loretta and James Gardner.

She married the love of her life, David Sullivan, on July 19, 1975. She spent most of her life doing what she loved, which was working on the family farm that they purchased in 1976, raising chickens and pigs, and growing the most beautiful flowers from “Betty’s Blooming Barn.” She also worked for Richmond County Schools, where she made some of her dearest friends.

Betty was the person that you could truly count on, she was a wife that loved endlessly, a mom that you could talk to about anything, a sister you could lean on, a grandmother “Grammy” that cherished her grandchildren and a friend that everyone wants to have. She was also a devoted Christian, and her faith ran deeper than the ocean. She attended Ledbetter United Methodist, where she served as a dedicated member, and loved her church family.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 30. The Family will receive friends from 1-2:45 p.m., followed by the service at 3p.m. at Watson King Funeral Home Chapel, in Rockingham. Interment will be at Richmond County Memorial Park.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Susie English, her sister and husband Steve.
