Betty Jenkins Howell, 92, of Rockingham passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, at her home. She was born May 31, 1932, in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Henry and Nettie Jenkins.
Mrs. Howell worked a number of years as a postmistress at East Rockingham Post Office but was primarily a homemaker. She was a faithful member of East Rockingham United Methodist Church. Betty loved to cook and read but above all she cherished her Sunday night visits with her family.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at Richmond Co. Memorial Park with the Rev. Michael Griffin officiating. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29th at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham.
Mrs. Howell is survived by her children, Gay Thurston (Bryan) of Maynardville, Tennessee, Tim Howell, Connie Howell Kelly (Steve) and Mark Howell (Heather), all of Rockingham; grandchildren, Maranda Robinson, Kevin Howell (Crystal), Regann Howell, Jennifer Beltz (Jacob), Katie Long (Derek), Brooke Kelly, Kylie Jo Howell, Evie Rae Howell and Darrin Thurston; great-grandchildren, Natalie Robinson, Mason Robinson, Landon Beltz, Logan Beltz, Leighton Beltz, Sawyer Long and Tatum Long. Mrs. Howell leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Granny” Howell; and a son, Randy Howell.
