OBITUARY: Birdie Dean Horne Graham

ROCKINGHAM — Birdie Dean Horne Graham, 85, of Rockingham, passed away Monday, July 18, 2022 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

She was born Aug. 15, 1936 in Anson County, daughter of the late Harrison and Ellen Jarman Horne.

Momma, as her children knew her, was well known by members of her community through her work with Richmond County Aging Services. She was an in-home aide supervisor and known for her strong commitment and compassion in providing services to the elderly.

Momma was strong-willed and driven in everything she did. Her love of family made her very determined in accomplishing everything she did. She took great pride in being GiGi to her grandchildren. Everyone that knew momma knew her love for eating and cooking. It was a given that on Sundays she was cooking. You didn’t get an invite, you just knew to come. We shared good times and made lasting memories sitting around eating and talking.

Momma and our daddy’s love for fishing led them to buy what they considered a little piece of heaven at Sunset Harbor along the Intracoastal Waterway. She took great pride in having this place where she could relax and fish. She and her great-granddaughter, Paisley, would argue back and forth about who it belonged to.

Our lasting memories of momma are of a simple, hardworking, passionate figure of strength who never waned in her support and love of her family and who soldiered on when times were tough. She did without so we would have. It gives us great comfort in knowing we will she her and daddy again in Heaven.

To all of those who think of me!
Be happy as I go to sea.
If others wonder why I’m missing!
Just tell’em I’ve gone fishin.
