Brenda McKinnon Barnes, 72, of Carthage, passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023 at her home.
She was born May 27, 1951, daughter of the late William Archie McKinnon and Norma Doris Phillips.
Brenda was always happy. She enjoyed gardening and planting trees, and loved to find treasures during her metal-detecting adventures. She was an avid reader, sometimes completing a book in one day. Cooking and playing the guitar were also some of her favorite things to do.
Brenda loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. She certainly missed spending time with her late husband, Gerald, after his passing in 2018. She will be missed by her family.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Wayne Barnes; sister, Carol Waldrop; and her beloved boxer, Nina.
Brenda is survived by her sons, Wayne Barnes of Carthage and Scott Barnes (Ashley) of Sanford; grandchildren, Gavin Barnes, Jordan Cram and Brandon Barnes; and sister, Paulette Thompson of Rockingham.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Richmond County Memorial Park. Following the service, she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
