OBITUARY: Charles Cranford Edwards

Charles Cranford “C.C.” Edwards, 52, of Rockingham, died Sunday, Jan. 21 at Universal Health Care in King.

He was born on April 30, 1971 to Donald Eugene Edwards and Shelby Cranford Edwards.

He attended Stokes County Schools and graduated in 1989 from Richmond Senior High School where he was a member of the JROTC program, played baseball and soccer. He attended Central Carolina Community College studying tool and die. He started working as a contractor for AT&T servicing phones at Fort Liberty, the VA Hospital and various other businesses. He changed his career and became an expert carpenter, helping restore some of the historic buildings in downtown Rockingham.

C.C. had a love for sports and the great outdoors. He helped build a car that he named “CC Rider” and competed in the Soapbox Derby qualifying for the Nationals race in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He greatly enjoyed being at the lake fishing, water skiing and camping with his family and friends; he also loved to hunt in colder weather. Other favorite pastimes were watching the Miami Dolphins and NASCAR racing.
Throughout his life he became a storyteller, captivating everyone when he told funny tales of his adventures and misadventures. These stories will be truly missed.

Besides his mother, Shelby E. Coble, C.C. is survived by his wife, Kristen Lawrence Edwards and their children, Robin (Josh), Kyle, Grace, and Charleigh; his sisters, Cathy Edwards, Lynn E. Byrd and husband David; stepsister Toni Ann Coble; mother and father-in-law Terry and Linda Lawrence; nieces, Danielle and Madison; nephews, Matthew, Mackenzie and Mike (Natalie); and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Eugene Edwards; his sister, Robin Edwards; brother, Chris Edwards; stepfather, Alton A. Coble; and nephews, Nick Edwards and Travis Marshall.

A Celebration of Life for Charles Cranford Edwards will be planned for a later date.

In honor of C.C. memorials may be made to Trellis Supportive Care of Winston Salem, N.C. or the ALS Association.
