Christie Thomas Smith Nichols, 34, of Hamlet, passed away along with her husband, William Tyler Nichols, on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025 as the result of an automobile accident.
Christie was born Aug. 29, 1990, in Richmond County, daughter of Mattie Lee Dennis Smith and the late William Thomas Smith.
She was currently employed as the store manager with Ollie’s in Rockingham and was good to her employees. Christie was a loving wife and the most beautiful, kindest soul with a great personality and loving heart. She was a wonderful daughter and always respectful to her parents. Christie loved her sisters dearly and they loved her. She enjoyed crafting and shopping. Her spirit will live on with her family and friends that loved her.
Along with her husband, William Tyler Nichols, she was preceded in death by her father, William Thomas Smith; sister, Billie Jo Smith-Chavis; and grandparents, Gene and Eva Mae Smith, and Sidney and Mary Alice Williams Dennis.
Left to cherish her memories are her mother, Mattie Lee Dennis Smith of Rockingham; sister, Ellen Smith (Daniel Shaw) of Rockingham; niece and nephews, Kimberly Dawn Haire of Rockingham, Steven Alexander Knight of Rockingham, and Curtis Michael Haire of New London; great-nephew and -nieces, Brycen Haire (Leah) of Laurel Hill, Kairi Allison Bower of Rockingham, Joanna Haire and Charlotte Haire, both of New London; great-great-nephew, Grayson Haire of Laurel Hill; father-in-law, William Nichols of Florence, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Donna Davis of Tennessee; brother-in-law, Zachery Nichols of New York; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025 beginning at 1 p.m. at Green Lake United Methodist Church, 623 Green Lake Road, Ellerbe, with Pastor Rev. Terry Cornelius officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
