Crystal “Chris” Terry Hagler, 65, of Hamlet, passed away Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023 at Richmond County Hospice Haven, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Sept. 4, 1958, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, daughter of the late Charlie Gibbons Terry and Sandra Roper Terry.
Chris loved to collect frogs and enjoyed planting and tending to her flowers. She also loved the beach and cooking. Her favorite times, in her later years, were watching soap operas and “The Waltons.” She dearly loved her family and was known as the family “Boss.”
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sammy Hagler; infant daughter, Regina Lee Brackett; son, Cliff Light; sister, Cynthia Grooms; and her beloved dog, Skylar.
Chris is survived by her children, Amy Elsenpeter (Jeremy) of Rockingham, Brandy Metzgar (David) of Winston-Salem, and Misty Cook of Rockingham; stepchildren, Tammy Tipton of Albertville, Alabama, Sammy Hagler Jr. and Chris Hagler, both of Tennessee; brother, Earl Terry (Jackie) of Rocky Point; grandchildren, Mekayla Bowman (Brandon), Ryan Sweatland, Austin Cook, Hunter Cook, Lainey Light, Brooklyn Sullivan (Jarod), Allison Light, Dee Hatcher and Bryson Hatcher; seven great-grandchildren; and special nephews, Scott Terry and Rodney Grooms, both of Wilmington.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023 at 4 p.m. at Southridge Freewill Baptist Church, Clemmer Road, Rockingham, with Pastor Ronnie Wayne Chavis officiating. Burial will be held privately by the family at Richmond Memorial Park.
