Danny Walter Pankey, 63, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham.
Danny was born July 27, 1960 in Germany to the late Walter Daniel Pankey, Jr. and Elsbeth Piwonski Pankey.
Danny worked with Lowe’s in Rockingham for 20 years, starting in seasonal and for most of that time in the paint department. Danny loved to have a good time and make people laugh. He loved animals and always had several canine and feline companions around the house that he dearly loved and spoiled. Having no children of his own, his special nieces and nephews, Angela, Cody, Walter and Victor, were his heart.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Barbara Poston and Paul Pankey.
Surviving are his husband, Vernon Labore; sister, Jenny Lovin (Mike); brother, Paul Pankey Jr.; nieces and nephews, Angela Salazar, Cody Giddens, Walter Pankey, Victor Pankey, Nicole Brizendine, Ariel Froman, Alana Brizendine, Ava Brizendine, Monica Robinson, Alix St.-Yves and Baily Robinson.
Family and friends are invited to a reception to celebrate a life well lived on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023 from 6–8 p.m. at the VFW Post 4203, 106 Old River Road, Rockingham, NC 28379.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Danny’s memory to the Richmond County Humane Society or to Richmond County Hospice.
