Debbie Kaye Benton Woods, 58, of Cordova, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Richmond County Hospice Haven, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born June 2, 1966, in Richmond County, daughter of Joyce Duncan Hodges and the late Robert Laney Benton Sr.
Debbie was a member of Cordova Baptist Church and loved her church family dearly. She was a woman of faith, whom not only loved the Lord, but faithfully sought the Lord in everything she did.
Debbie was a humble, compassionate and loving person. She had a lot of titles but her favorite title was to be called “Meme.” Her grandchildren were the core to her heart. Debbie found joy in spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed shopping with Thelma (Jeania) and Nanny, and there was nothing like back porch swinging watching the birds. Debbie will be missed by her family and friends.
Along with her father, Debbie was preceded in death by her stepfather, James Hodges; and brothers, Robert Laney Benton Jr. and Johnathan Grooms.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Lauren Benton of Cordova, Cassie Swink (Jarrod) of Rockingham, and Chasey Brown (Greg) of Hamlet; her mother, Joyce Duncan Hodges of Cordova; grandchildren, Sadie Swink, Mylie McCormick, Lexi Swink, Cayleigh Brown, Weston “Bubba” Swink and Kolton Brown; sisters, Shirley Benton of Rockingham and Kim Moore (Billy) of Hamlet; special sister, Jeania Rainwater; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 21, 2024 from 4-5 p.m. at Cordova Baptist Church.
The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 5 p.m., with the Rev. Doug Anderson officiating. Entombment will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.
