OBITUARY: Della Mae Covington

WALLACE — It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Della Mae Covington. She passed away at her home in Wallace, North Carolina on July 1, 2022.

Della was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was loved by everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed.

Della was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Archie Covington “Buddy,” and brother Pete Brigman.

She is survived by her great-grandchild, Landon Phagan; son, Robert Covington and Greg Firestone of the home; daughter, Vicky Dawkins; grandchildren, Brandon Dawkins, Brandy and Adam Phagan, Devin Roller; and siste,r Doris (Bobby) Grooms.

Della was born on April 28, 1938 and resided in Roberdel the majority of her life. She retired after 40 years of service from Richmond Senior High where she was known as the “Slushy Lady.” She was the Raiders biggest fan and never missed a game! She was also a member of Sweet Haven Church.

A private graveside service will be held at North Cemetery Extension. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 9 at 1 p.m. at 320 James Ave., Hamlet, at the home of Brandy and Adam Phagan.
