OBITUARY: Donald Allen Butler

Donald “Donnie” Allen Butler Sr., 75, of Hamlet, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Richmond.

He was born Oct. 12, 1948, in Richmond County, son of the late Lonnie E. Butler and Bonnie Brown Butler.

Donnie served our country in the United States Army. During his military years, he was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. After his service in the military, he worked with Georgia Pacific, now known as Hood Packaging, for many years. Even during his working years, Donnie enjoyed spending time as a carpenter, not only as a hobby, but enjoyed building handicap ramps for numerous families throughout the years in both Richmond and Scotland counties.

Donnie was a good man. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and he loved his family well. Some of his favorites times were watching Westerns on television. He will be greatly missed by his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of more than 55 years, Linda “Snuffy” Brown Butler; brothers, James Butler and Lonnie G. Butler; and sisters, Nancy B. Williams and Linda B. Brooks.

Donnie is survived by his children, Karen Renee Butler (fiancé Bret Osbourne) of Hamlet and D. Allen Butler Jr. of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; grandson, Bennett Cole Butler (fiancé Crimson Singletary); great-grandson, Braylon Lee Butler; sisters, Patricia B. Norton (Robert) of Hamlet and Barbara Smith of Hamlet; sister-in-law, Joyce A. Whidby of Conway, South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering/time of visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024 from 4-6 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet.
