OBITUARY: Doris C. Hardee

WINSTON-SALEM — Doris C. Hardee, 89, of Winston-Salem, formerly of Rockingham, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

Doris was born on Jan. 14, 1934, to the late John David and Maggie Inez Smith Creech in Richmond County.

She was a member of St. Paul Community Church and retired first from Burlington Industries and later Seaboard Station Restaurant.

Doris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and loyal friend. Spending time with her family and friends brought her great joy. She was an independent and determined woman whose quiet demeanor had quite a funny side. In her younger years, she loved cooking and bringing everyone together to celebrate any occasion in her home. Everyone was welcome.

After retiring, she enjoyed traveling with her friends and exploring new places. In later years, she became an avid reader, she loved doing word search puzzles, and socializing with her friends at The Carillon (Greensboro) and later at Creekside Terrace (Winston-Salem).

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie Joseph Hardee; sister, Mattie Hinson and brothers, Rufus Creech and Douglas Creech.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at St. Paul Community Church with Pastor James Brigman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
