OBITUARY: Doris Smith Wright

Doris Smith Wright, 96, of Hamlet, passed away Monday, Aug. 19,2024 surrounded by her loving family.

Doris was a daughter of the late Murphy and Mattie Smith and was born July 8, 1928.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Phil Smith, Gordon Smith, Jimmy Smith, Harold Smith, Jean Smith Herring and Barbara Smith McLean. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Payne “Bob” Wright, and their daughter, Cindy Wright Kennedy.

Doris worked for many years at JP Stevens as a secretary before they closed. She would then work at Stainless Steel in Hamlet before retiring. In her spare time, Doris loved to cook. At one point in time Doris ran a catering business with her sisters.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday Aug. 22, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Hamlet. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Hamlet with Dr. Allison Farrah officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Co. Memorial Park.

Doris is survived by a daughter, Robbie Bailey and her husband Joel; grandchildren Kevin Adcock (Fran), Traci Adcock Burton (Larry), Jordan Kennedy, Amber Kennedy, Marlee Kennedy and Hunter Kennedy; great-grandchildren Colton Walker, Kaylie Walker, Cody Walker, Caleb Adcock and Piper Adcock; great-great-grandchildren, Declan Knippers and Briston Knippers. She is also survived by her sister, Maxine Smith Kelly (JT); and many nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly.
