Edgar Burton Terry IV, 88, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.
He was born Jan. 30, 1936, in Richmond County, son of the late Edgar Burton Terry III and Mary Clodfelter Terry.
Mr. Terry served proudly in the United States Army and was a Korean War veteran. He went on to serve in the Army National Guard, retiring after nearly 30 years in his military career. He also worked as a diesel mechanic with CSX Railroad for many years and graduated with his associate degree in welding from Richmond Technical Institute in 1974.
Mr. Terry loved to laugh and loved people, and never met a stranger. He also enjoyed football. He was a good-hearted, kind and caring man that was generous in many ways and helpful with those in need. He was very loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Brock Terry in 2013; and grandson, Patrick Terry.
Mr. Terry is survived by his children, Deborah Joy Kelly (Jim) and Mary Joan Terry, both of Rockingham, Edgar Burton Terr, V (Chihoko) of Lilesville, and John Harvey Terry of Hamlet; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held private with military honors.
