HAMLET — Ella Short Fields, 75, of Hamlet, passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022 at Richmond Pines, Hamlet.
She was born March 20, 1947, in Byron, Georgia, daughter of the late John Edward Short and Matilda Wright Short.
Ella worked as a billing clerk and financial counselor with FirstHealth at Richmond for over 36 years. She was a spiritual, faithful woman of God. She enjoyed singing in her earlier years. She loved watching “Gunsmoke” and “Perry Mason.” Her greatest joy was her family; she loved her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Edward and Matilda Wright Short; husband, John William Fields Jr.; granddaughter, Allison Butler; and siblings, George Short, Marie Sale and Mable Thrush.
Ella is survived by her children, Alan Fields (Deborah Berry) and Valerie Fields Wheeler, both of Hamlet, Audrea Fields of Rockingham, and John W. Fields (Annabelle) of Mount Laurel, New Jersey; grandchildren, Christopher Fields, Adam Butler, Alaina Fields, John Andrew Fields and Jordan Arianna Fields; great-grandson, Layne Butler; brother, William Short (Melba) of Hamlet.
Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be Monday, Sept. 12, 2022 at 1 p.m. at the Hamlet Church of God of Prophecy, with Bishop Steve Crews officiating.
Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.
