OBITUARY: Elma Delilah Rushing McLean

PINEHURST — Elma Delilah Rushing McLean, 97, of Pinehurst, surrounded by her loving daughters completed her earthly journey on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023.

Mrs. McLean was born July 28, 1925 in Richmond County, the youngest of 10, born to the late James and Dora Rushing.

After 35 years at J.P. Stevens, she retired and volunteered her time helping the senior citizens of Richmond County. She was someone that never met a stranger, loved spending time with her family, and lit up any room she entered.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Grady McLean; nine brothers and sisters; and her infant daughter, Nancy.

Surviving are her two daughters, Cynthia and Dock Keziah of Cordova and Peggy and Johnny Burks of Aberdeen; three granddaughters, Kerry Tew (Chad) of Aberdeen, Stacie Lathan of Hamlet, and Wendi Blizzard (Jody) of Jacksonville; seven great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She resided at Pinehurst Health and Rehab for her last 17 years, surrounded by many loving staff that she considered extended family and close friends. She spent her final days being cared for by the amazing staff at FirstHealth Hospice.

A public viewing will be held at Carter Funeral Home from 12:30-1:30 on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023.

A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at McDonald Baptist church in Rockingham, officiated by Pastor Eddie McLean. The family will celebrate her life following the service at King’s Gate Church of Hamlet.

The family asks, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Hospice House of Pinehurst
