OBITUARY: Emma Black Beane

ROCKINGHAM — Emma Black Beane, 98, of Rockingham, passed peacefully, surrounded by her family at Hospice Haven on Monday, Aug. 1, 2022.

She was born on Oct. 21, 1923 and was predeceased by her parents Clyde Sr. and Cora Currie Black; and her brothers, Harold, James and Clyde Black.

She was formerly married to J.W. Beane, and together they had three daughters.

Emma was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rockingham since Oct. 14, 1934, and was the oldest member and held the longest membership of the congregation until her passing. She was presented an Honorary Life Membership by the Women of First Presbyterian Church in 1989, and was a loyal participant of the Lucy Russell Sunday School Class, where she fulfilled the role of treasurer for many years. She was also a volunteer at Richmond Memorial Hospital for many years, having served 1,668 hours.

She will be fondly remembered for her elegant style, always accessorized and wearing lipstick. Emma enjoyed working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, dinner meetings with her friends, attending church activities, and traveling. Most of all, she cherished time with her family.

She leaves behind three daughters and their spouses: Sherry and Lee Russell, Pam and Dale Denson, and Becky and Junior James. She was affectionately called “Nana” by her five grandchildren, Tracy Parris (Lee), Robbie James (Renee), Amanda James (Brian), Brad Denson, and Amy Harris (William); eight great-grandchildren, Logan, Hunter, Macy, Jentry, Harper, Emily Kate, Brady and Marley; and one step-great-grandchild, Alec.

The family sends their deepest appreciation to Emma’s wonderful friend and caretaker, Teresa Wall, as well as the employees of Richmond County Hospice and Hospice Haven.
