OBITUARY: Fred Thomas Sellers

SHALLOTTE — Fred Thomas Sellers, 87, of Shallotte, formerly of Rockingham, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.

He was born Sept. 29, 1935, in Richmond County, son of the late John and Emma Lilly Millen Sellers.

Fred proudly served our country in the United States Navy. His military days were during the Korean War and he served on the USS Shangri-La. He was proud of his military service and after his honorable discharge in 1958, he enlisted as a reservist.

Fred loved many things, including beach music and shagging. His most profound love was his family, especially his wife, Linda.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Cartrett Sellers; brothers, Perry Sellers, Robert Lynn Sellers and Johnny Sellers; sister, Nancy McNeil; and grandson, Justin Plumlee.


Fred is survived by his stepdaughter, Terri Plumlee (Gary) of Sophia; stepson, Warren Hanson (Aimee) of Elgin, Oklahoma; sisters, Edna McDonald of Hamlet and Betty Horne (Jim) of Rockingham; granddaughter, Morgan Plumlee; grandsons, Connor, Tyler and Gunnar; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Richmond County Memorial Park Mausoleum, with Jim Horne and the Rev. Betty Mears officiating. AMVETS will be providing military honors.
