HAMLET — Gary Mitchell Humphrey, 81, of Hamlet passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2022 at his home.
He was born Sept. 29, 1941 in Richmond County, a son of the late Nathan C. and Rose Dawkins Humphrey.
Mr. Humphrey enlisted and served honorably in the U.S. Army in September 1960. Following his service, Mr. Humphrey would go on to work for BellSouth for over 35 years and would stay there until he retired.
He was a devout member of East Rockingham United Methodist Church, as well as a member of the Civitan Club. Honoring his prior service, Mr. Humphrey was also a member of AMVETS Post 316 in Hamlet, North Carolina. Mr. Humphrey was also an avid fisherman.
Surviving him are his son, Mitchell Humphrey and wife Johanna of Hamlet; and his wife, Anna Humphrey of 59 years, also of Hamlet.
A private graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022 at 3 p.m. at Eastside Cemetery with David Richmond and James Mims officiating. Military Honors will be presented by AMVETS Post 316.
