OBITUARY: Helen Collins Watson

Helen Collins Watson, 84, of Hamlet, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023.

Helen was born and raised in Richmond County and was a daughter of the late Curtis Collins and Lena Morgan Collins.

Along with her parents, Helen is preceded in death by siblings Robert “Bobby” Collins, Inez Collins Thompson (John), James Earl Collins and Wanda Collins Brown. She is also preceded by her son Michael “Mike” Wayne Watson.

Helen was predominantly a homemaker and took pride in raising her two sons. In her spare time, Helen loved to travel and to watch classic movies, among many other things. Above all, Helen loved her family, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Helen is survived by her son, Glenn “Sonny” Watson Jr., of Rockingham; sisters, Gerry Collins Culler of Hamlet, and Faye Collins Bridges (Larry) of Wilmington. Helen also leaves behind four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, Oct. 5 from 1-2 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham. Helen’s funeral will follow immediately after with Chaplain Chris Thornton officiating the service. Committal will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made out to Richmond County Hospice Haven at 1119 U.S. 1, Rockingham, NC 28379.
