OBITUARY: Helen McCallister Hendricks Hunt

HAMLET — Helen McCallister Hendricks Hunt, 91, of Hamlet, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

She was born May 7, 1931, in Chatham County, Georgia, daughter of the late Earl and Elizabeth McCallister.

Ms. Hunt was a member of Second Baptist Church in Hamlet. She spent many years with the Richmond County school system as the cafeteria manager at Hamlet Junior High School, now Hamlet Middle School.

She loved attending Richmond Raider football games, was a huge fan of the Friday Night lights, whether at Raider Stadium or traveling, and was a member of the Booster Club. She was a past state commander of the DAV. Bird watching in her flower garden was an enjoyment to her. Saturday nights was her Rummy Club time and she looked forward to it as she spent many years enjoying the time with family and friends. She also loved crossword and jigsaw puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, George G. Hendricks and Hughie Hunt; son, George M. Hendricks; and daughter, Glenda Smith.

Ms. Hunt is survived by her children, Pat Dombrosky (Mark), Susan Braddock, and Mary Smith (Steve), all of Hamlet; grandchildren, Andy Ward, Rachel Palomba, Michelle Church, Sarah Katz, Emily Mathena, Megan Dombrosky, S. Daniel Braddock, Dakota Braddock, Israel Braddock, Joe Dombrosky and Jessie Smith; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Leo McCallister (Jan) of Washougal, Washington.

A time of visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022 from 3-5 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home. Burial will follow at a later date at Richmond County Memorial Park.
