OBITUARY: James Eugene Marshall

ROCKINGHAM — James Eugene Marshall, age 56, died at home Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022 in Rockingham, North Carolina.

He was born Oct, 24, 1965 in Orlando, Florida, to June Howard Marshall and James Joseph Yingling, while the governor of Florida was announcing that Walt Disney had purchased land to build Disney World.

He was a 1984 graduate of Westfield High School in Wisconsin and was a state wrestling champion. James “Jimi” started working from a young age. He would often ride his dirt bike to a neighboring farm to work before and after school hours.

Jimi joined the United States Army in July 1984. He served the 52nd U.S. Artillery Detachment in Europe as a chef until December 1987. After discharging from the military, Jimi returned to reside in Germany. When he returned stateside he would work as a chef in Florida, where he would also learn how to work in construction.

He would eventually move to Arkansas and then finally to North Carolina, however Jimi always called Wisconsin home. Jimi owned and operated Jimi’s Remodeling in Rockingham, North Carolina. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 147 Rockingham-East Rockingham, where he served as sergeant-at-arms and the posts chef. He was an active member of Beaver Dam United Methodist Church.

He was preceeded in death by his parents; his “dad,” William “Bill” Marshall; his brother, Ronald Yingling; and a special nephew, Ronnie Sikorski.

Surviving Jimi are his daughters, Sabrina Elaine Marshall Pfeiffer and husband Sven of Schmallenberg, Germany, Mackinze Gail and Jamie Tyann Marshall, both of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sons Christopher Lee Marshall of Schmallenburg, Germany and Dacota Lee Marshall of Colorado Springs, Colorado; siblings William “Billy” Marshall (Juanita), of Arkansas, Angel Musick (Chris) of Arkansas, Gary Lumby (Trina) or Arkansas, Jack Marshall (Stephanie) of Wisconsin, Colleen Wurzinger of Wisconsin, Kirby Haskins (Jaimy) of Indiana, and John Marshall-Evers (Glenn) of North Carolina; granddaughter Emma Marshall of Schmallenburg, Germany; and a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. Also surviving is his long-time friend, Tracy Ezzell of Rockingham, North Carolina.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Beaver Dam United Methodist Church in Rockingham, North Carolina. Family and friends will meet in the Family Life Center following the service.
