OBITUARY: Jean Hawkins Stutts

NORMAN — Jean Hawkins Stutts, 91, of Norman, surrounded by her loving family, completed her earthly journey on Monday, Feb. 13, 2023.

Mrs. Stutts was born April 17, 1931 in Stokes County, a daughter of the late Sam Frank and Annie Lane Highfil Hawkins.

She was a member of Saron Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and for many years served on the Town Council and as mayor of the town of Norman for two terms.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Stutts; grandson, Dan McInnis; and siblings, L.J. Gann, George Hawkins, Byron Hawkins, Harry Hawkins, Lindsey Hawkins, Hassell Hawkins, Avis Yates and Inez Shepard.

Surviving are her children, Glenda S. McInnis (Danny), Janice S. Parks (Jimmy), Donald Stutts (Jane) and Gary Stutts (Ellen); grandchildren, Tracey Novick (Randy), Donnie Stutts, Joshua Stutts (Ashley), Michael Parks (Laura), Stephen Parks, Zachary Stutts (Kayleen) and Drew Stutts (Susan): great-grandchildren Trey McInnis, Emily Novick, Michaela Parks, Cooper Parks, Abbie Stutts, Carlynne Stutts, Nora Stutts, Delaney Stutts and Sullivan Stutts; brother, Frances “Flukie” Hawkins (Linda); and special niece, Kelly Sears (John).

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023 at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe with the Rev. Wayne Luck and the Rev. Roger Paxton officiating. Interment will follow in Rourke Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 6–8 p.m. Friday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the McInnis home.
