OBITUARY: Jennie Mae Dye

HAMLET — Jennie Mae Dye, 85, of Hamlet, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023 at Richmond Co. Hospice Haven.

She was born Dec. 18, 1937 in Florence County, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Tom G. and Ella Mae Scarborough Gardner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Duke Dye; and grandson, Christopher Ladd.

Jennie Mae was a homemaker and a member of Faith Freewill Baptist Church. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking all the time. Everyone was welcome at her table, she was a light in a dark world.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Faith Freewill Baptist Church and at other times at the home of her daughter Debbie Darnell, 315 Hylan Ave. Hamlet.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Faith Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Jonathan Osborne and the Rev. David Lee officiating.

Surviving, her children, Ed Ladd (Joanna) of Hamlet, J.D. Ladd (Gwen) of Opelika, Alabama, Vernon Dye (Janice) of Hamlet and Debbie Darnell (BF) of Hamlet; grandchildren, Kimberly Wessell (Michael), Ken Chavis, Lucas Chavis (Kristin) and Duke Dye (Shelbey); great grandchildren, London Chavis and Addie Chavis.

Memorials may be made to Richmond Co. Hospice, 1119 Hwy. 1 N, Rockingham, NC 28379.

The family would thank her caregiver, Frankie Crooms, and the staffs at Richmond Pines and Richmond Co. Hospice for their great care for Jennie Mae.
