Jerry Norman Millen, 85, of Hamlet, passed away Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.
He was born March 5, 1938, in Richmond County, son of the late Odis Millen and Viola Tarlton Millen.
Mr. Millen served his country in the United States Air Force, stationed in both Iceland and Japan. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for more than 29 years. Following retirement, he also worked with the Richmond County Daily Journal as a pressman for several years.
He was a true sports fan, loving the Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Washington Redskins and Duke. He enjoyed spending time watching westerns. His greatest love was his wife, the late Ruth Helen Benton Millen, whom he shared over 50 years of marriage, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Helen Benton Millen; and brother, Jack Millen.
Mr. Millen is survived by his children, Angela Millen Smith (Henley) of Hamlet, Lynn Millen (Deena) of High Point, and Jeff Millen (Bobbie Jo) of Rockingham; grandchildren, Ryan Stewart (Chris), Brent Smith, Casey Millen, Jadea Millen, Ashton Millen, Whitney Sewell (Matt), Dalton Millen (Laura), and Garrett Millen (Bridgette); great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Martin (AJ), Jared Daniel, Lane Stewart, Fisher Sewell, Easton Sewell and Sammi Jo Millen; brother, J.C. Millen of Lynchburg, Virginia; and sister, Norma Martin (Johnny) of Rockingham.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023 at 1 p.m. at East Rockingham United Methodist Church. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.
At other times, the family will greet friends at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Henley Smith, Louis Breeden Blvd., Hamlet.
