Jessica H. Horne (hereinafter: Jess), 32 years of age, passed on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025, at Chapel Hill Hospital. She was born July 16, 1992, in Chapel Hill.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025 at Ashley Chapel AME Zion Church, 332 Mizpah Road, Rockingham. Public viewing will be Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025, noon until 5 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 1021 E. Washington St., Rockingham.
Jess graduated from Richmond Senior High in 2011. Jess spent her last years as a SAHM, raising her son. Jess loved to shop and loved to get her nails done. She also loved spending time with family, laughing and always wearing a smile on her face. She was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother and friend. “To know her was to love her.”
Jess was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Linda Nelson-Bright and Cora Lee Hayes; grandfathers, William Hayes Sr. and Earl Gould; uncles and aunts, Darren Nelson, Jimmy Pore, Cathy Lockett, Jackie Brown and Lafayette Gould; four cousins; and a Godbrother.
Jess leaves to cherish her loving memory her wife, Joanna Horne (Bae), son, Deshawn Little Jr. (June); Goddaughter, Constance Covington; parents, Patrick (Pat) and Iris Hayes (Tinky); her siblings, Shaquira Nelson (Kavon); Patrick Hayes (Kristen) and Lashaun Hayes; her niece, Delaney Hayes; nephews, Kyrie Hayes, Na’Siah Hayes and Ya’Meire Nelson; two special grandmas Doris Allred (Nana) and Betty Harrington (grandma); her grandfathers, Charles Bright and Jimmy McKenzie; her aunts, Toni Nelson, Jermika McKenzie, Trineda Little, Clara Scott, Teresa Legrand, Anna Mae (Jim) Brown, Sandra (Melton) Robinson, Debra (Richard) Douglas, Verna (Blank) Pearse; her uncles, Jeremy McKenzie, J.C. McKenzie, Willie (Joann) Hayes, Keith Hayes and Steve Gould; two Godmothers, Carolyn Byrd and Tema Harrington; four God-siblings; and a host of cousins and friends.

Special thanks to everyone who donated monetary funds, sent flowers, cards, words of encouragement, etc. Special shout out to the RSHS class of 2011 for their special help.
