ROCKINGHAM — Joan McDonald Woods, 78, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, May 26, 2023 in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Joan was the daughter of the late Wilbert Wilson McDonald and Lottie Ruth McDonald. Joan was born June 10, 1944 in Rockingham.
Joan was raised in Richmond County, North Carolina where she attended Rohanen High School and graduated in 1962. Joan always had a joke and she never met a stranger. Joan loved to travel and attend ball games with her family. Joan was an avid fan of the Carolina Panthers, she tuned in to watch them play every chance she got. Above all, Joan loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Joan is preceded in death by her late husband, Jerry Woods; and her sister, Brenda Potter.
Joan is survived by her children, Teresa Baxley, Beth Steen (Chuck Yow) and Phil Woods; siblings, Emma Smith, Janice Starling, Priscilla Herring, Vickie McDonald, Carla King; sister-in-law Marselle Bowman; grandchildren Christopher Baxley, Sid Steen, Jessica Steen, Jennifer Steen and Lawson Woods.
The family will receive friends at Watson-King Funeral Home Rockingham, Wednesday evening, May 31, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral will be held the following day, June 1, at 3 p.m. at Southridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Robbie Stewart officiating. Committal will follow at Eastside Cemetery.
In addition to flowers, the family would like memorial donations to be made out to Richmond County Hospice Haven at 1119 N. U.S. Hwy 1, Rockingham, North Carolina.
