OBITUARY: Jocelyn Frye Osorio

Jocelyn Frye Osorio, 91, of Hamlet, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Pinehurst Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Pinehurst, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 13, 1933 in Richmond County, daughter of the late Henry William Frye and Hartie Pearl Collins Frye.

Jocelyn worked as a seamstress for many years. She was a gifted pianist, serving area churches including Green Lake United Methodist Church, McDonald Baptist Church, Hylan Pines Freewill Baptist Church and Mount Calvary/Rock of Ages Church. Her skill in playing piano reached even beyond churches in the community and taught others.

Jocelyn was known to be an asset to those in need. She worked alongside the American Red Cross as well as REACT International, a volunteer public service through radio communications, helping and serving people in need. She was recognized for a rescue mission with the Coast Guard for her dedication to her service during times of disasters and emergencies. Her love of people and helping others was evident throughout the community with her drive to help feed the hungry and at one point, led the soup kitchen in Hamlet.

Joycelyn dearly loved her family and enjoyed cooking and spending time with family during family gatherings. She will be missed by her family and all that knew and loved her.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, W.C. Goodwin Sr.; her daughters, Annette Prevatte and Bonnie Kelly; grandchildren, Dawn Kelly, Eric Kelly and Joy Smothers; brothers, Eldridge Frye, Henry Frye Jr. and Delayne Frye; and sister, Ernestine Dawkins.

Jocelyn is survived by her children, Danny Blakely of Hamlet, Richard Blakely Jr. of Rockingham, David Goodwin (Linda) of Rockingham, and Alice Little of Hamlet; brother, Delmo Frye of Rockingham; 14 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Green Lake United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1-1:45 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
