ROCKINGHAM — Joe Farrell Burns, 85, of Rockingham, passed away Monday, June 12, 2023 at his residence.
He was born Feb. 10, 1938 in Richmond County, son of the late Huey Arthur Burns and Monnie Bertha Dawkins Burns.
Joe served our country in the United States Navy and was proud of his service. During his working years, he was a truck driver for White Poultry and Perdue Farms.
He was an avid fisherman and deer hunter and enjoyed them both. Joe loved camping with his family and spending time with them. He dearly loved his family and they equally loved him. He will be greatly missed.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of more than 40 years, Margaret Lowery Burns; son, Danny Farrell Burns; granddaughter, Jamie Leigh Burns; and 12 brothers and sisters.
Surviving are his children, Darrell Burns (Tammy), Susan Burns Grant, JoAnn Potter, and Terri Burns Odom (Michael), all of Rockingham; grandchildren, Taylor Potter, Alfred Potter IV, Justin Jackson, Jordan Odom, Joseph Odom and Jase Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 2-3 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Harrington Funeral Home with Pastor Harris Jordan officiating.
