OBITUARY: John Benjamin Carr Jr.

John Benjamin Carr Jr., 81, of Rockingham, went to be with his heavenly father on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023.

John was born Sept. 24, 1942 in Essex County, Massachusetts to the late John Benjamin and Phyllis Woodward Carr. He was a graduate of Rockingham High School, Class of 1960 and High Point College, Class of 1965. He returned to Rockingham in 1965 and opened his own CPA practice and retired in 2010.

John was strong in his faith and was an active member of his childhood church, West Rockingham Methodist Church, where he served as lay leader, lay speaker and Sunday school teacher for over 40 years. He was the founder of Full Gospel Business Fellowship International and served as its president. He loved the outdoors, fishing, conservation and enjoyed going to NASCAR races with Scotty.

He married the love of his life, Ann Bevan Carr at Jamestown United Methodist Church on Oct. 28, 1963. From this union came their children, John “Scotty” Carr (Crystal) and Teresa “Terri” Mullins (Joe); grandchildren, Jordan Quate (Adam), Kaitlyn Howell (Robbie), Bevan Carr (Nick Thompkins) and James Carr (Kaylin Sanders); step-grandchildren, Katie Moore, Tina Powers and Johnny Bogan; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate and honor a life well lived will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023 at West Rockingham Methodist Church with Pastor Paul Haber officiating.

The family will greet friends at the church following the service and at other times at the home.
