John Daniel Summersett, 72, of Rockingham, passed away Aug. 4, 2023.
John was the son of Marion Carl Summersett II and Christine Cunningham. John was born in Florence, South Carolina, on April 18, 1951.
Along with his parents, John is preceded in death by daughter Jennifer “Jenny” Summersett and his brother, Bobby Summersett. John is also preceded by longtime friends Steve Hutchinson, Randy Hughes, Jessie Hill, James Nelly and Jimmy Parks.
Being born and raised in Florence, John attended and graduated from South Florence High School. After high school, John would go on to honorably serve his country for eight years. After his career in the military, John would work for the railroad, and drive trucks for various jobs. Outside of work he loved fishing. Bass was his favorite catch. He loved wrestling and above all he loved spending time with his family.
John leaves behind his wife, Sherry Cooke Summersett, to whom he was married for a blissful 44 years. He is further survived by his children, Carla Summersett Bittle (Ken) of Hamlet, John Summersett II (Lesley) of Rockingham, and Samuel Brett Summersett, also of Rockingham; grandchildren, Destiny, Isaiah, Elijah, Jenna, Joseph, Garret, Dylan and Kirsten. John is also survived by his siblings, Ronnie Summersett and Joy Summersett Smith; and lifelong friend, Bobby Ingram.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Watson-King Funeral Home Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and other times at the home. Funeral services will commence at 1 p.m. at Richmond County Memorial Park with Lee Wallace leading the service. The family will receive friends after the funeral at the home of John’s Daughter, Carla, at 689 Cheraw Road in Hamlet, North Carolina.
