OBITUARY: Johnny Philmore Carpenter

ROCKINGHAM — Johnny Philmore Carpenter, 76, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully, Friday, June 30, 2023 at Richmond County Hospice Haven, surrounded by his family.

He was born Nov. 14, 1946, in Richmond County, son of the late Alfred Pinklin Carpenter and Elsie Mae Chavis Carpenter.

Johnny was an automobile mechanic for most of his life. He worked with McLean’s Automotive for 32 years. His favorite thing to do was build classic cars with his brothers and he enjoyed spending time in his shop at home. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying riding motorcycles, fishing and gardening. His pride and joy was his grandson, Levi.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Alisha Faye Carpenter; brothers, Wilbert Carpenter, David Carpenter and Haywood Carpenter; and his sister, Verline Carpenter Worrell.

Johnny is survived by his lifelong partner, Angie Woodard of the home; children, Ashley McQueen (Grayson) of Rockingham, Aaron Carpenter of Hamlet, and John Carpenter of Rockingham; grandson, Johnny “Levi” Carpenter; and brothers, Alfred Carpenter of Hamlet and James Carpenter of Rockingham.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 2, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home.

The funeral service will follow the visitation, beginning at 7 p.m., in the chapel of Harrington Funeral Home with Pastor Marvin Taylor officiating. Burial will be held private.
