OBITUARY: Kenneth Wayne Webb

ROCKINGHAM — Kenneth Wayne Webb, 65, of Rockingham, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond.

He was born June 19, 1957, in Wilson, son of the late Grover Staton Webb and Helen Jean Stott Webb.

Wayne started his career in education teaching hearing-impaired students. He attended North Carolina State University two years, prior to receiving his bachelor’s degree. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education from Atlantic Christian College, now Barton College. He then obtained his Master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina-Pembroke. Once he obtained his Master’s Degree, he taught all general education grades from first through fourth.

For more than 30years, he served Richmond County Schools at Cordova School. Wayne was actively involved in professional organizations in education, especially with the N.C. Association of Educators and the N.C. Association of Retired School Personnel, serving in numerous county and district leadership roles.

He was an active participant with the Richmond Community Theater and children’s theater before and during his retirement years. After retirement, he continued to be an integral part of his community by serving with Discovery Place Kids, being an original employee when it first opened in Richmond County.

Wayne loved to travel and enjoyed time spent watching birds and squirrels at his home where he provided feeding sanctuaries for them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Staton and Helen Jean Webb.

Wayne is survived by his brother, Dale Webb of Pineville; and a host of lifelong friends.

A time of sharing and visitation will be Monday, May 15, 2023 from 3-5 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet.
