OBITUARY: Larry Wall Chavis

Larry Wall Chavis, 73, of Rockingham, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

He was born Aug. 4, 1950, in Richmond County, son of the late Lindsey Chavis and Ruth Wall Chavis Britt.

Larry was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served our country. He worked as a surveyor and loved his job. He had several hobbies that he enjoyed, such as gardening and being outside, and was an avid NASCAR fan. Larry had a great sense of humor and enjoyed his Mountain Dews.

Larry was a good-hearted, caring man and dearly loved his family. They were the most important in his life. He always said “I love you.” He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Thomas Chavis Sr., Walter Ervin Chavis Sr., and Ronald Wayne Chavis.

Larry is survived by his children, Tori Michelle Chavis of Wallace, South Carolina, and Jeffrey Ryan Chavis of Cheraw, South Carolina; grandchildren, Jaylyn Plato, Keion Madison, Jeffrey Chavis Jr., Nathan Chavis, Wyatt Chavis and Gabriel Chavis; brothers, Everett Lindsey Chavis (Regina) of Rockyface, Georgia, Bobby Gene Chavis and Ralph Edward Chavis (Connie), both of Rockingham; sisters, Shirley Louise Chavis Mini of Salisbury, Sonya Britt Lovin (Mark) of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, and Nina Diane Britt of Hamlet; best friend, Warren Jacobs; Aubrey Tess Driggers, who always had a special place in his heart; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 1-2 p.m. at Southridge Baptist Church, Clemmer Road, Rockingham.
The funeral service will begin, immediately following the visitation, at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.
