OBITUARY: LaWanda Jean Stevens Brigman

HAMLET — LaWanda Jean Stevens Brigman, 56, of Hamlet, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

She was born Oct. 22, 1965 in Richmond County, daughter of the late William Benny Stevens and Louise Hinson Stevens.

LaWanda attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church when she was able. She grew up in church, loved Jesus, and loved reading her Bible. One of her favorite passages was Psalm 91.

She was a self-employed dog groomer and loved her profession. She especially loved her dog, Frosty. She enjoyed traveling and seeing different places. In previous years, she helped care for her mother. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved going to the park with them.

LaWanda was preceded in death by her parents, William and Louise Stevens.

She is survived by her daughters, Amber Hatcher Dick (Michael) of Hamlet and Jade Chantelle Brigman of Rockingham; grandchildren, Sieanna Hatcher, Abigail Hatcher, Levi Brown, Shaleigh Dick, Ryker Morrison, Rylee Morrison, Maddox Morrison, and another baby due May 2023; sister, Ellen Gainey of Rockingham; and nieces, Shannon Page and Amanda Gainey.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022 at 5 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1293 Sandhill Road, Rockingham, with the Rev. James Brigman Jr. officiating.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Amber Dick, 154 Lance’s Run, Hamlet.
