Lena Vuncannon Gibson, 78, of Raeford, formerly of Rockingham, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at FirstHealth of the Carolinas Hoke Campus.
She was born Nov. 22, 1945 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Floyd and Evie Simpson Vuncannon.
Lena retired from the textile industry. She enjoyed attending church and singing. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance. A friend to many, she was a cherished member of her nursing home community where she was a social butterfly participating in bible study regularly and special choir during the holidays.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynwood Boyd Gibson, in 2008.
A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Northam Cemetery Extension with the Rev. James Croke officiating.
Surviving are her children, Kenneth Lynn Gibson, Worth Lewis Gibson and wife Esperanza, Candy Gibson Chavis and husband Scott, and James Michael Gibson and wife Mary; nine grandchildren and three-great grandchildren.
