Louise Smith Horton, 91, of Rockingham, completed her earthly journey on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023.
Mrs. Horton was born Feb. 29, 1932 in Catawba County, the daughter of the late Charlie and Clara Parham Smith.
Mrs. Horton was a graduate of Ellerbe High School, where she was valedictorian of her class. She was a longtime member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church, where she had served as an assistant Sunday school teacher and a member of Women AGLOW. She had worked with the Pee Dee Council of Government prior to her retirement.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion B. Horton; daughter, Katherine Horton; and brother, Glenn Smith.
Surviving are her children, Janis Hinson, Rebecca Curtis (Gregg), Michael Horton and Rachelle Horton; grandchildren, Ryan Roller, Robert Johnson, Steven Johnson, Karrissa Sutton (Allen), Brittney Parrish, Kaley King (Gary) and Jenna Everett; and great grandchildren, Hannah Johnson, Cannon Braddock, Allyson King, Aubrey King, Waylon King, Gracie Everett, Colton Sutton and Willow Sutton.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Horton’s life will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2023 at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham with the Rev. Michael Stanton officiating. Inurnment will follow in Northam Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 1:45–2:45 p.m. Friday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
