OBITUARY: Lt. Col. Daniel Eugene Barber

ROCKINGHAM — Lt. Col. Daniel Eugene Barber, USMC Ret.,73, of Rockingham passed away Sunday, June 18, 2023 at Richmond Co. Hospice Haven.

He was born Oct. 14, 1949 in Moline, Illinois, a son of the late John Howard and Mary Frances Kinney Barber.

Dan graduated from Moline High School in 1967, Black Hawk Junior College in 1969, Western Illinois in 1971 and Naval Post Graduate School in 1982.
He retired from the United States Marine Corps with 30 years of service and served as an artillery officer and financial manager. He worked for Joint Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg for 8 ½ years.

Dan was a member, financial chairman, and BBQ chairman of St. James Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Ducks Unlimited and assisted during elections on Richmond County Board of Elections 2012-2020. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cribbage and baking.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Cheryl Ann.

Funeral Mass will be conducted Friday, June 23, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Father Melo officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Co. Memorial Park with full military honors.

Surviving, his wife of 22 years, Nancy Adeimy Barber; children, John Thomas McDole (Jessica), Paul Stephen McDole (Andrea), Sarah McDole Cave (Patrick), Sarah Katherine Guerrant (William), and Erin Ann Barber (Katie); grandchildren, Thomas Gerald McDole, Ashley Nicole McDole, Rayne Alexis Barber, Moira Eleanor McDole, Charlie Daniel Cave; brothers, Richard Barber (Linda) and Gary Barber (Deborah); and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 5-7 p.m. with rosary service beginning at 5 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet.
