OBITUARY: Martha Ann Wallace Waters

Martha Ann Wallace Waters, 88, of Hamlet, passed away Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Jan. 2, 1935, in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, daughter of the late Frank McKinley Wallace Sr. and Eliza Lee Wallace.

Martha was a member of Springhill Wesleyan Church, Hamlet. She was a strong-willed, kind lady, a wonderful mother and “Memaw,” and would do anything for anyone in need. She was pleasant and never said a harsh word to anyone. Martha enjoyed crossword puzzles and completing puzzles. She also enjoyed going to yard sales. She loved her cats and her favorite times were with family during gatherings. She loved her family and will be dearly missed.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon Waters Sr.; sons, Larry Lovin and Billy Lovin, and Weldon “Sugar Bear” Waters Jr. ; grandson, Brad Lovin; brothers, Frank McKinley Wallace Jr. and Charles Henry Wallace; and sister, Mary Lee Todd.

Martha is survived by her children, Judy Lynn (Phil) and Scott Waters (Laurie), all of Hamlet; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Lovin of Hamlet; grandchildren, Jason Lynn (Crystal), Michael Lynn (Sammi), Bryan Lovin (Erica), Kaylin Wiggins (Aaron), Emily Rowell (Dakota) and Leah Waters; 14 great-grandchildren and one on the way.

The family would like to thank her caregivers, Elaine Huckabee, Melinda “Moe” McLendon, Gayle Tunstall and Judy Smith.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet.

The funeral service will be Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023 at 3 p.m. at Springhill Wesleyan Church, Hamlet, with the Rev. Johnny Stogner and the Rev. Ken Goins officiating. Burial will follow at Marks Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

At other times, the family will receive friends at the home.
